What do I do if my pet dies at home?

When you lose a pet unexpectedly or outside of a professional environment it can be tough to know what the next steps are.

At Suffolk Pet Crematorium, we endeavour to make the process of dealing with your loss as easy and comfortable as possible.

If your pet passes at a time when you are unable to get to us or reach us on the phone, don’t panic – simply move your pet to a cooler environment. Their bodies will go through natural changes that occur when they pass, but cooler temperatures will help to slow this process down. You may wish to adjust their final resting position and cover them with a blanket to bring a sense of peace and tranquility.

This is also a good opportunity to give family members and surviving pets the opportunity to say goodbye before they come to us.

When you’re ready to visit us, call us and speak to a member of our friendly and experienced team who will discuss the process and ensure that your pet has a dignified and peaceful cremation. You can choose to receive the ashes in a wide range of urns, scatter pouches or tubes and are welcome to use our Farewell Room on your visit for a private goodbye, as well as the Lake of Rememberance to enjoy memories of the time you spent with your loved one.

If you would like your pet collected from your home or veterinary practice please call us directly to make arrangements in advance.
